Little Falls Pumping Station
The Washington Aqueduct, Army Corps of Engineers, awarded Cynergy Electric a contract for the electrical improvements at the Little Falls Pumping Station located in Glen Echo, Maryland.
The pumping station is a back-up source of water supply to a large portion of the metropolitan Washington, DC area. The station has a dual feeder design (medium and low voltage) provided for redundancy. The construction documents required Cynergy to replace the entire incoming and distribution feeder system. The demanding construction schedule and working around the delicate operational nature of the facility were some of the challenges faced during construction of the project.
Basic features of the project consisted of; the replacement of two Pepco approved 38 KV 1500 MVA Breakers, two 5 KV Substations, two 208 V Power Centers, 5 KV Cable replacements, the modification of six 2500 HP synchronous motors and low voltage and control wire replacements. All of the rigging (millwright), medium voltage cable terminations, control wiring and heavy industrial electrical conduit installations were performed by our professional staff. The only subcontracted portion of the project was the third-party field testing and coordination study. The project is on schedule to be completed in mid-November 2005.
